Andropause

ANDROPAUSE ( MALE HORMONE DEFICIENCY )

It is expected that as a man ages, his levels of male sex hormone ( testosterone ) will drop gradually. ‘Andropause’, however, refers to a situation when the drop in testosterone in much larger or faster than is expected.

This drop in male hormone may result not only in deterioration of sexual function but also some other symptoms which one may not initially link to sex hormones, such as:
  • sleep disturbance
  • depressed mood
  • fatigue
  • increased visceral fat with decreased muscle mass
  • decreased bone strength
  • reduced body hairs

If you suffer from some of these symptoms, a testosterone test may be appropriate. This test does not require fasting, but should ideally be done in the morning.
